Sterling Silver Pardon Indulgence Scapular Crucifix *preowned*. Beautiful vintage Pardon Indulgence Scapular Crucifix on an 'endless' style chain without clasp. Approximate total length of chain is 24". I believe the chain is rhodium plated. The approximate weight of rhe crucifix alone is 4 grams, which has a substantial feel around the neck. The pardon panel reads, "Jesus Nazarenus Rex Judaerum", Jesus of Nazarene King of the Jews. Below the cross beam of the crucifix are two scapulars depicting Jesus and Mary, the Virgin Mother. The reverse of the crucifix reads, "Behold this heart which has so loved men", and "Father forgive them." Both phrases intersect at the Sacred Heart centered at the cross beam and upright of the crucifix. These indulgences, or 'graces', were declared upon the Pardon Crucifix by Pope Saint Pius X in 1905. It is a lovely crucifix and shows some of the wear that comes with adoring and holding such a thing close to oneself often. It needs to find a new home with another 'oneself' to adore it as it has been for a long while. A portion of the proceeds benefits a Catholic charity. Enjoy and be well.
