Description

This pair of colorful stoneware "Marriage Mugs" was made at the Larnhof pottery in Eastern Austria, which has since closed. They were produced in 1972 as a limited run of 400 pairs, and each mug is notated on the back with its number in the series. They are all dated on the front, 1973.
The ware is highly fired and resilient stoneware, which is ovenproof, dishwasher, and microwave safe. They are obviously hand turned and hand painted. The mugs are about 4" tall. Each mug is signed with the initials of the decorator, and are marked on the bottom with the Larnhof trademark, "Handmade-Stoob-Austria".
The bride's raised forefinger admonishes the groom never to forget his vows. The groom, hat in hand, raises his glass to confirm his vow. Worked into the beautifully hand decorated design you will find wedding bands, the nuptial knot, and the initials of the artist. All this and more is explained in the nicely written card that will be included with the mugs.
Even if the year 1973 has no significance for you, these make a wonderful household coffee or tea mug.  They have never been used and are in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, or defects of any kind. This set of mugs sold for .00 in 1973!
