-All Thai Pillows and mats are filled with Kapok. This is an authentic Thai Pillow.
Kapok is a cotton-like fiber that comes from the giant pods of the kapok tree. It is very soft and has a yellow luster. Kapok is hypo-allergenic resistant to compressing, repels insects (keep the bedbugs away!), resistant to mold and mildew, 100% organic and kapok is impervious to water (In fact life jackets were made of Kapok) Thai pillow makers have used Siamese Kapok for centuries.
The History of Thai pillows:
The most reliable historical records are painted murals in the old Wats (Temple) scattered about Northern Thailand (Lanna Kingdom). Some of these old Wats contain murals from the 19th Century (1850-1875) which clearly depict the use of Thai pillows.
