Although I pour most of my pieces, I purchased this great mug in bisque* and then handpainted my design on it before firing it in the kiln at almost 2000 degrees. After it cooled (usually about 24 hours), I glazed it with a clear lead-free glaze and refired it in the kiln.
It is Dishwasher & Microwave Safe

* Bisque is made from liquid clay (called slip), which is poured in a plaster mold until it becomes firm. Once removed from the mold, it is left to dry for several days, somes times up to 2 weeks. Next the seam lines where the 2-piece mold was sealed, are removed by scraping, sanding and finally sponging. Rough edges are smoothed and the piece is fired in a kiln. The clay, which was originally grey, turns white. At that point the bisque piece can be stained, painted or glazed in any colors.
My work has been featured in many juried arts and crafts shows throughout Michigan and several states, I have won awards for my work and been included in many Invitational and Museum Shows. Every design is original and copyrighted by me. Because each piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike.
