A horrific memento from Kerensky Offensive (also commonly known as the July Offensive, 1917) A Book marked with bullet holes from a German machine gun helped save the life of a russian soldier, his great-grandson has explained. The Book belonged to Roman Popov, a private soldier with the Russian imperial army. The enemy machine gunner opened fire but hit the Book, which Roman Popov always carried in the backpack.
